art x change

After meeting in an EMCarts workshop series that investigated facilitation at the intersection of artistic process and community change, Olga de Klein, Ann Law, Jaime Peterson, and I wanted to create space for women of different ages and backgrounds to continue conversations about systemic change. Art X Change was a semester long project that partnered six students from Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy with four professional artists to create an art installation based on our group's values and shared desires for our communities. We used creative processes to get to know each other, understand each others values and ideas, and share stories. The resulting installation consisted of twelve painted tapestries exhibited in the theater space of Barking Legs; each of us painted one tapestry and then worked in small groups to create pieces with written word.

Thank you to the Lyndhurst Foundation and Scenic City Angel for making this project possible!
